Keep Winter Cool |
Hillbilly Wax-Works
In an effort to practice good environmental stewardship, Terry Peak Ski Area has taken steps to position itself as an environmentally ethical business, within the Black Hills and the ski industry. Below are the steps we currently take during the winter season and through our off-season. It's important that our guests help us in protecting the environment too. Near the bottom of this page, please note the short list of what you can do to help keep our slopes sustainable.
Early Season Mowing - promotes strong vegetation root growth.
Re-use Oil - from our snowcats, chairlift gear boxes and engines. Oil is re-used from JR's Logging and other local businesses.
Modern Snowmaking Compressors - eliminate oils from the air.
Modern Snowguns - quieter and require less air, which conserves energy.
Recycle Scrap Metals - steel, brass, aluminum at R & N Recycling in Sturgis.
Harmonic Filters - used on the High-Speed Quads and allow us to conserve energy.
Administration Efforts - conserve energy by shutting down PC's & lights at the end of the day. Recycle paper as well.
Weekly Trash Pickup - in the parking lots and under the balcony at Stewart Lodge.
What You Can Do...
- Pack It In - Pack It Out: Don't use our parking lots and trails as garbage cans
- Don't use a truck bed as a garbage can... the trash will blow out somewhere down the road
- Respect Wildlife: Observe and obey trail closures and ski area boundaries
- Share A Ride: Enjoy the view and carpool
