Snowmaking

In 2002, Terry Peak Ski Area aquired access to an additional 15+ million gallons of water and two large holding ponds. The recent upgrade pairs perfect with top of the line pumps, Snowmakingcompressors and snowmaking guns. Terry Peak now has enough water and conventional technology to push 1,000 gallons per minute for extended durations of time and can cover 60% of the mountain with quality man-made snow, so that opening day is a sweet day and on time!

We begin making snow on or before November 1st, when temperatures allow. In order for our crews to make snow, the temperature cannot be any higher than 28 degrees F and 75% humidity. A best case scenario to make snow are temperatures less than 18 degrees F with humidity levels less than 60%. With cold temps and humidity levels at 50% to 60%, piles (known as "whales") that are produced in an 12 hour period can range in sizes 70 feet long and 25 feet deep. Once we are in single digit temps, snow can be made at any humidity level. Our snowmaking crews will work 24/7, if temperatures allow, so you have a product to slide on. Basically, they can and will make a lot of snow!
